Soft Solutions announces 4-Sight Fax version 5.0.4r2, the general release of their API kit and beta release of their AppleScript Developer kit

Atlanta, GA ---- February 13, 2003 ----Built on the feedback of an active developer community, Soft Solutions is pleased to announce 4-Sight FAX version 5.0.4r2, the general availability of its Application Program Interface (API) for OS 8.6, 9, X and Windows and its AppleScript Developer kit for Mac OS 8.6 and 9. The powerful, general-purpose Applescript Developer kit will be available in Beta release beginning on February 17th at http://www.4sightfax.com/5Developers.html. The OS X Applescript Developer kit is currently in development preparing for Beta release.

The new cross-platform API allows both the Macintosh and Windows developers to create their own custom fax clients and tools. The v5 API is being integrated by industry-leading plug-in developers creating cross platform plug-ins for Filemaker Pro, Omnis, 4th Dimension and a number of C++ applications.

Other improvements in version 5.0.4r2 include requested end-user customization options with the Fax Forward to Email feature. There is also improved handling of Apple's TextEdit and Preview documents which do not support Apple printing Events.

Senior Developer, Phil Weiss adds "Direct database faxing and powerful Applescript-based faxing eliminates the need for maintaining multiple address books while providing faxing within most client applications. In addition, with version 5's TCP/IP fax server capabilities, customers can now send faxes through any internet connection."

While the API in version 4 provided a full suite of fax sending capabilities, the version 5 API is being developed in two phases. Phase 1, now complete, will improve upon version 4's fax sending capabilities. Phase 2 will provide a complement of tools for managing, viewing and manipulating incoming faxes.

Current API-based plug-in solutions include Barnes Jewish Hospital's Cardiac Diagnostic Lab in St. Louis, Missouri. Here, patient echocardiogram results are faxed automatically from 4D to multiple physicians. In Belgium, Unit One sends faxes directly with their Omnis database under Macintosh OS X. In Mississippi, PurdyFaxx provides an automated patient medical record fax-back system written in 4th Dimension. In San Diego, California, Oceanside Glasstile faxes invoices directly from their FileMaker application.

The 4-Sight FAX API, available starting in 4-Sight Fax version 5.0.4r2, is a free upgrade to all existing version 5 customers.
